Piano Lessons at Kalamazoo Music School

Whether you aspire to play Bach, Herbie Hancock, or Coldplay, Kalamazoo’s dedicated piano instructors will help you become the pianist you want to be. Our faculty will introduce you to the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, and incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons. You do not need a piano at home to take lessons; a simple full-size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first six months. Our piano instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with each individual or parent to craft a lesson plan that fits the student’s unique needs and favorite type of music. Whether you're playing in local bands, a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to the piano after many years, our teachers will share their love for the piano and help you set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

Reviews from our Piano Students:

“My 10 and 12 year old sons have been getting jazz lessons for a few months now at KMS. They absolutely love their lessons and learn a lot from their cool instructors Ms. Jane and Mr. Josiah. We loved how our sons were auditioned by Benje and placed with what appears to be perfect-match instructors. We are thankful for KMS ability to switch between in-person and virtual lessons in case something comes on short notice. Thank you KMS!” - Natalia Rush

“Our daughter has been studying voice and more recently, Piano, with Kalamazoo Music School for a few years now. We have always been impressed with the quality of the instructors and the fact that they always make us feel like we are part of the KMS Family. Benje & Ashley have always done everything possible to accommodate our needs, especially when the pandemic hit. They transitioned our kiddo flawlessly to virtual lessons. It has been a bright spot in our week during quarantine. We will spend many more years with them.” - Jessi Gates

“My son has been attending KMS for about a year and a half now and has learned so much! He is learning piano and both his past teacher and current (Josiah) have been a great fit. Whenever things seem a little easy for him, they’re always giving suggestions on other things to work on beyond the current lesson and if a week is tough, there’s more time to focus on it without feeling rushed! Benje and Ashley have been amazing to work with! I like how they were able to create a plan when Covid hit to still allow classes to work online, but also when the time was available to go back to in person, they worked to make it available! Also digital online recitals are awesome to allow family not near us to tune in and see how he’s progressed!” - Kayla Abel

“Outstanding operation. Excellent instructors provide range of learning options geared to individual capabilities.” - Patrick Sweeney
