Unvaccinated folks, including all kids under 12, wear face masks here at Kalamazoo Music School at all times: staff, faculty, students, and parents.

At present, masking is optional here, but we support anyone wearing a mask for any reason.

safety is our primary concern

Research. Learn. Innovate. Implement. Adapt. All musical skills, all skills for a pandemic! Our school was the first in our area to take our entire student body completely online beginning March 15, 2020. Since July 2021, we have slowly introduced in-person lessons because we believe it’s best for everyone (mental health included) when we find safe ways to care for our holistic wellbeing. Our private lessons and ensembles can be transitioned back online at any point and virtual lessons are 100% always an option at any time for any student.

TRUST is the glue

Our community looks out for each other and it’s no different when it comes to possible exposure to COVID. Our faculty and staff communicate anything at all that concerns them regarding COVID, including their own potential exposures. Transparency and communication are high all around from our amazing students and families with people texting or calling us as soon as they have any potential exposure that they have heard about. This ensures that we have the best chance of stopping anything from getting through our doors. Students can switch to a virtual lesson or receive a makeup lesson for any in-person lesson that they need to shift for any reason.

Kalamazoo Music School In-Person COVID-19 Safety Protocols as of September 27, 2022:

If you are sick and suspect that you might have Covid, please take a virtual lesson (or request makeup materials) until you have a negative test.

  • If you have Covid, isolate for 5 days and take your lesson virtually over Zoom if within those 5 days. Come back in after 5 days, provided that:

    • your symptoms are improving, and

    • you are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication

  • If the above are not yet true, take virtual lessons until they are.

  • Masks are optional in our space, but we support masking for any reason.

  • Consult the CDC complete guidance for more detail: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/isolation.html

**If for whatever reason we see another surge or spike in our area, we may implement any previous COVID protocols, or new ones as needed.**
